THE KILLER OF YOUR POTENTIAL
Who is the hardest opponent you’ll ever face?
It’s not the guy across from you on the mat.
It’s your ego.
In my years in sports, especially Jiu-Jitsu, I’ve seen the same pattern:
Some students grow fast, some get stuck for years and some never change.
The difference? How they handle their ego.
When you tap in training, what’s your first thought?
“That was a fluke”
“I'm just tired today”
“I let him have that one”Or do you think:
“What did I miss there?”
“How can I fix this mistake?”
“I need to work on this position”Your ego is your biggest enemy.
In Jiu-Jitsu, you must be humble enough to recognize your mistakes. Skilled practitioners fix mistakes with technique not muscle.
Without this humility, you can train for 10 years and improve less than someone who trained for 2 years with purpose and an open mind.
I’ve rolled with world champions who ask questions after rounds.
I’ve also rolled with blue belts who make excuses after every tap.
Guess which one improves faster?
This isn’t just about Jiu-Jitsu. It’s about life.
At home, at work, in relationships – the ability to recognize when you’re wrong is a superpower.
How long do you want to make the same mistakes? How long will you use muscle to fix it? How long will can you expect a different outcome to improve?
Every mistake is a lesson. Set your ego aside and your potential increases exponentially. Your full potential is a reality! Will you get out of your own way?
This mindset is what we teach at Bushido – both for Adult AND Kid classes.
