CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL
Losing matches or competitions is often where you learn the most and causes this biggest change…Some things in life are NOT under your control.
The referee makes a bad call...
You get sick right before the tournament...
Your opponent is having the best day of his life...
However, if you let these things destroy your mindset, you will NEVER become a champion.
Here's what I learned:
In Jiu-Jitsu (and in life), you must understand what you CAN control:
Your training - Show up every day and train with purpose
Your attitude - Stay positive in spite of obstacles
Your effort – Focus giving 100% where it matters most
You will have competitions or tournaments where things don't go your way.
You can get angry, point fingers or make excuses.
But champions and winners don't do this. They take full ownership.
Instead, you need to learn to EMBRACE everything - even the bad things.
There is a right time for everything, and sometimes challenges make you stronger for bigger victories later.
When you stop trying to control the uncontrollable and focus only on what you CAN change, you become unstoppable.
This is how champions think.
And this mindset isn’t just about how you think – it’s also about how you train.
Mastering key fundamental techniques, like defense, passing, escaping, sweeping, gives you the confidence to control matches… No matter what happens.
Key fundamentals that are proven to work in class, competitions and real-life self-defense situations are exactly why we spend so much time working on these aspects at Bushido.
We want ALL of our students to be prepared and ready physically AND mentally no matter what challenges they encounter.
